Insulin and other medication that are used to control glucose levels in diabetes type 2, cause a lot of side effects, especially in patients over age 50. Those were the results of a study published yesterday in JAMA Internal Medicine. According to the scientists the positive effects do not always outweigh the negative side effects. Potential new target for treatment of diabetes type 2

Protectin DX (PDX), an omega 3-fatty acid derivative, could possibly be used as a new therapy for diabetes type 2, according to researchers of the Laval University in Quebec. Philip White and colleagues described the results this week in Nature Medicine. In an earlier published article they demonstrated that low biosynthesis of protectins is associated with inflammation and insulin resistance in obese mice on a high-fat-diet. Continue reading
