Cocktail of drugs speeds up treatment tuberculosis

A cocktail with three different drugs, named PaMZ, can reduce the duration of treatment of patients with tuberculosis (TB). The cocktail can treat patients infected with tuberculosis strains that are hard to cure, for example because of multiresistance to conventional antibiotics such as isoniadzid and rifampicin. Deactivating a certain class of adhesion receptors on CD4 T cells, CCR5, can lead to a natural resistance to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This is shown by Pablo Tebas and his colleagues, and published in The New England Journal of Medicine. With this promising HIV treatment, there is hope for a treatment without lifelong medication.
